- Reading Tutoring
Students who struggle with spelling, reading, and writing due to dyslexia or a learning disability need instruction that is multi-sensory, direct, explicit, structured and sequential program designed for intense intervention. Students should receive tutoring at least 2x per week to make adequate progress. Students tutored more often will make more rapid progress. There are ten levels of tutoring available and all students will begin in Level 1, regardless of age. Level 1 begins with Phonemic Awareness, a foundational and prerequisite reading skill, and advances to 2) Consonants & Short Vowels, 3) Closed Syllables and Units, 4) Syllable Division & Vowel Teams, 5) Prefixes and Suffixes, 6) Six Reasons for Silent-E, 7) Vowel-R Syllables, 8) Advanced Vowel Teams, 9) Influences of Foreign Languages, and 10) Greek Words & Latin Roots. Students who have completed all ten levels will be reading, spelling, and doing basic writing at the mid-ninth grade level.
